A shopping centre offered the first half-hour of parking free. Gavin told his wife he had worked out a way to avoid paying while she browsed.
Every twenty-nine minutes he moved the car to a new space and walked back to the shops. After the third trip, his feet hurt and he had missed the cafe they had planned to visit.
‘How much have you saved?’ she asked.
‘Three pounds,’ he said proudly.
She held up the parking sign. ‘It says free for the first thirty minutes per vehicle, not per space.’
Gavin looked at the car keys. ‘So what have I been doing?’
‘A very expensive walking challenge.’
