At the repair café, a volunteer examined a toaster that refused to toast.
“Does the light come on?” she asked.
“Yes,” said its owner. “It clicks, hums and pops up on time. The bread is still cold.”
She tested the cable and heating wires. Everything worked. Then she asked him to show her exactly how he used it.
He reached into his bag and took out two thick slices wrapped in foil.
“I wrap them so the crumbs don’t make a mess,” he explained.
The volunteer unwrapped a slice. “Your toaster has been keeping the foil warm.”
“Excellent,” he said. “Can it do that for my lunch?”
