Mrs Cooper asked her class to keep a log of their bedtime reading. On Friday, eight-year-old Leo turned in a full page of entries with titles, times, and a score out of ten beside each one.
‘This is very thorough,’ she said. ‘Which book did you like best?’
‘The one Mum read on Wednesday. She did all the voices.’
‘But the assignment was to record the books you read.’
‘I know,’ Leo said. ‘I recorded every one.’
Mrs Cooper pointed to the scores. ‘What are those?’
‘Her marks. Mum listens when you tell her she needs to practise.’
