A plumber stood in Mrs Hart’s kitchen listening to a drip.
She had placed bowls under the sink, beside the fridge and near the back door. “It moves every time I come in,” she said.
He turned off the tap. The dripping continued. He checked the pipes. Dry.
“Can you hear it now?” she asked.
“Yes.” He followed the sound into the hallway, where her grandson was sitting with a phone.
The boy paused his recording of a dripping tap.
“I made it for my science project,” he said. “Grandma said the house was too quiet.”
The plumber handed Mrs Hart his invoice. “I found the leak,” he said. “It’s in the entertainment budget.”
