The Office Printer Queue

Every Monday the office printer jammed. Every Monday somebody left a note saying DO NOT USE, and every Tuesday it worked again.

Priya finally asked the technician what he repaired each week.

“Nothing,” he said. “I just clear the tray.”

“Then why does it jam on Mondays?”

He opened the paper tray. Inside lay a pile of crumpled sticky notes.

“Someone keeps loading the warning labels into the paper tray,” he said.

Priya read the top label. It said DO NOT USE.

“Who loads the warning?”

“The person who notices the jam,” said the technician. “We’ve built a very efficient reporting system.”
