In an office building, someone taped a notice inside the lift: IF THIS LIFT STOPS, PLEASE REMAIN CALM.
On Monday the lift stopped between floors. Three people read the notice and remained calm. Then the lights flickered.
“What do we do now?” one asked.
The second pressed the alarm. A voice answered, “Help is on the way.”
The third person examined the small print at the bottom of the notice.
It said: “This notice is for the lift engineer. The passengers have never been a problem.”
When the doors opened, the engineer was breathing harder than all three of them.
