The Fishing Competition

At the village fishing competition, entrants lined up with stories about the ones that got away.

One had escaped under a boat. Another had snapped a line strong enough to tow a car. Tom arrived with an empty bucket and a wet boot.

“You caught nothing?” the judge asked.

“I caught this boot,” Tom said. “It was heavy.”

The judge inspected it. “At least one person here is telling the truth.”

Tom accepted the honesty prize and looked inside the boot.

“There’s a fish in it,” he said. “I was saving that part for the awards ceremony.”
