The Dishwasher Starts A Family Debate

Paul loaded the dishwasher and proudly announced that every plate fit.

His daughter opened it and found one spoon, two cups, and a frying pan balanced like a roof.

Paul said the empty spaces were part of the design.

His wife asked, Is the design called washing tomorrow?….

Paul explained that the frying pan protected the delicate cups from the powerful water.

His daughter pointed out that it also protected them from all water.

On the lower shelf, three plates faced the wall. A bowl sat upside down over the soap dispenser.

Paul said every item had a reason.

His wife held up the cheese grater. It was lying flat across the cutlery basket like a bridge.

Paul called it good use of horizontal space.

They started the machine. For an hour it hummed, splashed, and sounded very busy.

When it stopped, the spoon was clean. Everything else looked exactly the same, only warmer.

Paul blamed the modern eco setting.

His wife removed the pan and fitted in twelve plates, four bowls, six cups, and the grater.

Paul watched in silence.

Then he said his first load had been a test.

His wife handed him a towel.

It passed. You invented storage with a rinse cycle.
