The Dentist’s Sticker Drawer

The dentist offered a sticker to every patient who sat still through an appointment. Eight-year-old Leo chose a silver star.

His grandfather, who had been nervous about his own filling, watched from the next chair.

“Do adults get one?” he asked.

“Of course,” said the dentist. “If you sit still.”

After the filling, the dentist opened the drawer. The grandfather took a bright rocket sticker and put it on his jacket.

Leo stared at him.

“You moved twice,” Leo said.

“That’s why I picked a rocket,” his grandfather replied. “It goes faster than a star.”
