A clock repair shop displayed a sign: WE CAN FIX ANY CLOCK WHILE YOU WAIT.
Nora carried in a grandfather clock that had stopped at six. The repairer examined the pendulum and opened the back.
“This needs a new spring,” he said. “I can order one for Thursday.”
Nora pointed to the sign. “I thought you could fix any clock while I wait.”
“I can,” he said. “Are you in a hurry?”
“I’m due at work in an hour.”
“Then come back Thursday,” he said. “You’ve already waited here long enough for today.”
