Sam lent his neighbor Pete a lawn mower on Saturday morning. By lunchtime, the engine had been running for nearly three hours.
Pete’s lawn had stripes in every direction. He had already mowed around the tree twice and was starting on the same patch again.
Sam called over the fence. “You can bring it back whenever you’re finished.”
“I am finished,” Pete shouted, steering around the tree once more.
“Then why are you still mowing?”
Pete glanced down at the handle. “I can’t find the off switch. I was hoping the petrol would run out before you came outside.”
Sam walked over and flicked a tiny lever.
Pete stared at it. “Oh. I was just about to start your garden to use up the rest of the tank.”
