Summer Whitmore is no stranger to finding dogs in harrowing situations. During her rescue missions, she often encounters starving pups, inhumane living conditions, and heartbreaking dumping spots.
This time was no different.
During one of her feeding routes, she checked several places known as gathering spots for stray dogs. While her initial goal was to help the dogs already in her car, one friendly face caught Summer’s attention.
The Pittie, peeking from an old, decaying truck, gave the rescuer the kindest look. At that moment, Summer knew she had to return for her.
The Friendliest Pup

Summer, the founder of Dog Days of Summer Sanctuary in Hawaii, hoped that the pup she had just discovered in the truck would still be there when she returned.
“Even if I have dogs already with me when I see a dog in need, I always stop, secure my dogs in the vehicle, and then go check on the dog in need to assess the situation,” shared Summer in a Facebook post.
She rushed to drop off the puppies at the sanctuary, and when she returned, a familiar face was sitting outside the truck. It was the same Pittie girl, and she was definitely happy to see her rescuer.
“This pooch was happy to see me and definitely in need of medical attention, food, and love,” added Summer.

Unlike other stray dogs that typically take time to warm up to people, this Pittie, later named Peaches, was friendly right off the bat.
The moment Summer called her to enter her car, she hopped right in. She was just happy to start a new chapter, and somehow knew that this human was there to help.
At the sanctuary, Peaches was subjected to a vet exam. The Hawaii team diagnosed her with mange, worms, and fleas, which was quite what they expected, given Peaches’ previous life.
The dog also had several wounds on her body and was underweight.

However, none of that affected Peaches’ genuine friendliness and just the sweetest smile. She was beyond happy to finally be in an environment that meant hope, and it was written all over her face.
Toys, Rocking Chairs, And Hope: She Has It All

A few days were all it took for Peaches to blossom in the sanctuary.
With her medical care going on, this Pittie girl felt so much better. She ate, took cozy naps, played with her friends, and enjoyed all the toys Summer and the team prepared for her.
“Peaches is doing well at the sanctuary. We have started her medical care and we gave her some toys to choose from – she picked them all,” Summer concluded.
Peaches even got to enjoy the sunsets on a comfy rocking chair. She literally had it all!

However, one thing this sweet girl’s missing is a forever family.
Hopefully, when the time is right, Peaches will have a home of her own and the people who will show her what true love is all about. As for her, there’s no doubt that she will make an amazing companion someday!
