Mabel tried on a jacket beside a mirror marked HONEST REFLECTION.
The assistant said it showed clothes exactly as other people saw them.
Mabel turned left, right and sideways.
Then she asked whether the shop had a less experienced mirror….
Mabel liked the jacket on the hanger. It looked smart, cheerful and ten years younger than the other jackets.
The assistant helped her into it and pointed to the special mirror.
No soft lighting, no slimming angle and no tricks, she explained.
Mabel studied the sleeves.
The mirror showed every fold.
She buttoned the jacket.
The mirror continued its work without kindness.
The assistant said honesty helped customers make confident decisions.
Mabel asked whether confidence was included in the price.
The assistant offered another color.
Mabel shook her head.
The jacket is fine.
Then why change mirrors?
Mabel pointed toward the changing rooms.
I want one that has not met me before.
