Helen joined a silent book club because ordinary meetings talked too much.
Everyone sat together and read for an hour without speaking.
At the end, the leader asked for quiet feedback.
Helen raised her hand and pointed to the man beside her….
The club met in the library every Thursday.
There were no introductions, summaries or debates about what the author really meant. People simply read.
Helen loved it.
Then a new member sat beside her.
He turned each page with a sharp flick. He sighed at sad parts, laughed at jokes and whispered difficult words to himself.
At the end, the leader asked everyone to write one quiet comment on a card.
Helen pointed to the man.
The leader gave her a pencil.
Helen wrote: HE READS OUT LOUD WITHOUT USING WORDS.
The man read the card and nodded.
Then he whispered, Good point.
