Grandma’s grandson installed a voice-controlled lamp beside her chair. He said it would turn on whenever she said, “Lamp on.”
She tried it politely. Nothing happened. He said it sharply. The lamp lit at once.
“You just need to speak a bit louder,” he told her.
Grandma looked at the lamp for a moment, then nodded. That evening, her grandson heard her call from the living room.
“Could someone turn off this light, please?”
He hurried in and flipped the switch.
“That wasn’t voice control,” he said.
“Of course it was,” Grandma replied. “I asked, and you came running. It even understands ‘please.’”
