Colin’s smart fridge kept warning him whenever the door stayed open.
He changed the settings, lowered the volume and even apologized to it.
One night, the fridge began sending alerts while nobody was in the kitchen.
Colin went downstairs and found the door firmly shut….
Colin had bought the fridge because it promised to reduce waste.
It listed old food, reminded him to buy milk and complained whenever he stood thinking with the door open.
His wife, Jane, said the machine had learned his mother’s voice.
At midnight, Colin’s phone buzzed.
FRIDGE DOOR OPEN.
He checked. The door was closed.
The alert came again.
He opened the fridge and inspected every shelf. Nothing blocked the seal.
Then a small hand appeared behind the vegetable drawer.
Their grandson, Leo, was hiding there with a torch and a spoon.
Colin asked what he was doing.
Leo pointed to a bowl of chocolate pudding.
The fridge said the door was open, Leo whispered, not the investigation.
