Colin Buys a Smarter Garden Sprinkler

Colin bought a smart sprinkler that checked the weather before watering.

For three dry mornings, it did nothing.

He called support and read every setting aloud.

The adviser asked what location Colin had entered.

Colin liked gadgets that removed decisions from his day.

His kettle chose the temperature. His watch told him when to stand. His doorbell told him when someone was standing outside a door he could already see.

The new sprinkler promised to water the garden only when needed.

Colin connected it to his phone and waited.

Monday was hot. The sprinkler did nothing.

Tuesday was hotter. It sent a message saying RAIN EXPECTED.

No rain arrived.

On Wednesday, the lawn looked tired and the sprinkler congratulated Colin for saving water.

Colin called support.

The adviser asked him to read every setting.

Automatic watering, on.

Weather check, on.

Garden type, hopeful.

The adviser asked for the location.

Colin read the town name from the screen.

There was a pause.

The adviser asked where he lived.

Colin gave a town with the same name, two hundred miles away.

The adviser said the other town had enjoyed rain all week.

Colin looked at his brown lawn.

Can I change the location?

Of course, the adviser said. Or you can wait. Your grass is having excellent weather somewhere else.
