Brian wanted ten thousand steps, so he walked through every room in the museum.
He circled statues, returned to old paintings and climbed the main stairs twice.
At closing time, his watch showed only nine thousand.
A guard offered to help with the final thousand….
Brian had visited for culture, but his watch turned the trip into exercise.
He paced while reading labels and chose the longest route between galleries.
His wife asked whether he had seen the famous portrait.
Brian said he had passed it six times.
At five o’clock, the guard announced closing time.
Brian checked his wrist. Nine thousand steps.
He explained the problem.
The guard said he could easily finish the last thousand.
Brian looked grateful.
Is there another gallery?
No, the guard said. Your car is in the far car park.
