The Seed Labels Create A Mystery Garden

Frank planted six rows of vegetables and labeled every row carefully.

A strong wind mixed all the labels before anything grew.

His neighbor asked how he would know which plants were which.

Frank said, I will let the vegetables introduce themselves….

Two weeks later, small green shoots appeared beneath signs for carrots, beans, tomatoes, onions, lettuce, and peas.

Frank watered each row according to its label. The plant marked onions climbed a stick. The plant marked beans stayed underground.

His neighbor suggested moving the signs after the plants became clear.

Frank said that would confuse them.

By June, a pumpkin grew beneath the lettuce sign. Tomatoes appeared in the carrot row. The onion row produced three sunflowers that nobody remembered planting.

Frank made a new sign that said Mixed Vegetables and placed it in the middle.

His neighbor pointed to a large patch of weeds.

Frank said those were still under review.

The next morning, he found a fresh label beside them. His wife had written Restaurant Guests.

Frank asked why.

She said they arrived without booking and took the best table.
