Ron Buys a Clock That Runs Backward

Ron bought a clock that ran backward and said it made the room interesting.

His wife asked how anyone could know the correct time.

Ron explained that they only needed to subtract.

The next morning, he arrived late for breakfast….

The clock looked normal except the hands moved the wrong way.

Ron called it a conversation piece.

His wife, Anne, called it a wall puzzle.

At bedtime, Ron showed her how to calculate the hour.

If it looks like seven, think five. If it looks like eight, think four.

Anne asked what happened at six.

Ron said six was still six, which proved the system was simple.

The next morning, breakfast was cold when he arrived.

Anne asked why he was late.

Ron pointed at the backward clock.

I subtracted the wrong direction.

Anne handed him the cold toast.

Good. Now eat breakfast backward and start with the washing up.
