Jean installed a parcel box and printed clear instructions for every driver.
The sign explained where to lift, place and lock each delivery.
The first parcel arrived beside the box.
Jean checked the delivery photograph and saw the driver pointing at her sign….
Jean had designed the instructions in large letters.
LIFT LID. PLACE PARCEL INSIDE. CLOSE FIRMLY. TURN HANDLE.
At the bottom she added: PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE PARCELS BESIDE THIS BOX.
The next morning, her parcel sat on the ground.
The delivery photograph showed the driver smiling beside it.
Jean zoomed in. He was pointing at the bottom line.
Her husband read it carefully.
Jean asked what was funny.
He pointed to the final words.
The sign did not end at BOX. A small arrow continued around the side.
It said UNLESS LID IS LOCKED.
Jean tried the lid. It was locked.
Her husband nodded.
At least somebody read all the instructions.
