Grandad Labels Every Plant in the Garden

Grandad labeled every plant so the family would stop asking what was growing.

He marked tomatoes, roses, beans and one empty patch.

His granddaughter read the empty label twice.

Then she asked what sort of plant needed complete silence….

Grandad liked order in the garden.

The tomatoes had red labels. Herbs had green labels. Anything eaten by birds received a small complaint.

His granddaughter Lily followed the signs until she reached a bare patch beside the shed.

The label said QUIET PLEASE. DO NOT DISTURB.

Lily whispered her question.

What is planted here?

Grandad looked toward the kitchen window.

Nothing yet. Your grandmother thinks I am building another shed.

Lily asked why the soil had to stay quiet.

Grandad handed her a packet of sunflower seeds.

Because the planning permission is still asleep.
