The Gym’s Step Challenge

The gym held a step challenge. By noon, Marcus had logged twelve thousand steps without leaving the building.

“Have you been on the treadmill?” the trainer asked.

“No. I’ve been looking for it.”

She showed him the room at the end of the corridor. The machine was beside the window.

Marcus checked his watch: twelve thousand and six.

“I’m almost done,” he said. “Where’s the changing room?”

“Behind you.”

“Wonderful. By the time I find my locker I’ll win.”
