A photographer asked the Patel family to stand together and smile naturally. Dad straightened his collar. Mum moved the children closer. The youngest made a face every time the camera pointed at him.
‘Don’t worry,’ the photographer said. ‘I’ll count to three.’
‘One, two—’ The child grinned, then looked away at three. They tried again. The same thing happened.
‘Why won’t you smile for the picture?’ Mum asked.
‘I do,’ he said. ‘You just keep taking it after I’m finished.’
The photographer lowered the camera. ‘Fair enough. This time I’ll count to one.’
