After dinner, Ben pushed the dessert menu away. “I’m absolutely full,” he told his wife. “Not one bite more.”
She ordered a slice of chocolate cake. “And two spoons, please,” she told the waiter.
Ben waited until the waiter had gone. “Why two? I just said I don’t want any.”
“Of course,” his wife said, and turned back to the menu.
When the cake arrived, Ben watched her take the first bite. He leaned across the table. “Well, perhaps just a tiny taste.”
She raised an eyebrow. Ben sighed. “All right. You were right.”
The waiter placed the spare spoon beside him. “That’s what your wife said it was for, sir. She thought you might need something to eat your words with.”
